Objectives: Successful implementation of psycho-oncological interventions is challenging. Understanding how such interventions are experienced and assessed by healthcare professionals in clinical settings is important and may support successful implementation. Two psycho-oncological interventions, a Family Information Group Meeting and a Support Group, were piloted at Lillebaelt Hospital, Vejle (November 2024 – March 2025), as part of a regional initiative funded by the Region of Southern Denmark to support children and adolescents as relatives. This study aims to explore healthcare professionals’ perspectives on the barriers and facilitators and further guide the implementation of these interventions supporting adolescents and their parents through the mothers’ breast cancer trajectories. Procedures: Seven 30-minutes semi-structured interviews were conducted at the hospital. Four nurses involved in facilitating and/or recruiting for the interventions, one head nurse, one chief oncologist and one chief nurse, participated. Thematic analysis was conducted. Preliminary findings: Three themes were consolidated: Resources, capturing the practical challenges of implementing and recruiting for the interventions within the constraints of limited time and competing clinical responsibilities, Meaningfulness highlighting how the healthcare professionals’ perceptions of the interventions as meaningful serves as a motivator and facilitator, and Vision pointing to the importance of a strategic direction that aligns the interventions with broader political/regional aims for the target group. Conclusion and clinical implications: The findings emphasize the importance of prioritizing time and effort for the interventions within the clinical oncology setting, transparent and structured planning, a shared sense of purpose among the staff, and a clear overarching vision when implementing psychosocial support interventions for adolescents and their parents in hospital settings.
