Background: Cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality and disability worldwide, including in India. With the rising number of cancer cases, caregivers, particularly those caring for paediatric patients, face immense financial, physical, social, and emotional challenges. In India, caregiving responsibilities largely fall on family members due to limited resources and formal support systems. This ongoing strain can significantly impact their overall well-being. To address this, the Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) introduced online expressive therapy (ET) sessions, providing caregivers with a structured space for self-expression and emotional relief. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ET in improving the quality of life (QOL) of paediatric cancer caregivers through guided online support groups. Method: A quasi-experimental single-group pre-post-test design was used. Online sessions of 60-70 minutes each incorporated various expressive therapy techniques. The Caregiver Quality of Life Index–Cancer (CQOLC) scale was used to measure caregivers’ QOL before and after the intervention. Results: Since caregivers often face logistical challenges in attending in-person sessions, the online format provided accessible support. The results showed a significant positive impact on multiple aspects of caregivers’ lives, highlighting the effectiveness of ET in providing emotional relief and a space for self-expression. Conclusion: Paediatric cancer caregiving can be overwhelming, leading to stress and reduced well-being. While traditional interventions exist, this study underscores the value of alternative approaches such as art therapy, creative writing, and movement therapy in improving QOL. Expressive therapies were found to reduce distress, enhance emotional expression, and promote overall well-being, emphasizing the need for their inclusion in caregiver support programs.
