Justin Gulliver

Consultant Social Worker (Psycho-Social Oncology) & Team Lead, Allied Health Oncology Te Whatu Ora – Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley Justin Gulliver is a highly experienced Oncology Social Worker based in Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand. With over 20 years in health social work, he currently holds dual roles as Consultant Social Worker (Psycho-Social Oncology) and Team Lead, Allied Health Oncology at Te Whatu Ora, Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley. His work focuses on supporting people with cancer and their whānau through the emotional, social, and systemic complexities of diagnosis and treatment, as well as developing the skills of the wider oncology workforce to deliver supportive interventions. Justin is a member of the Cancer National Clinical Network, contributing to national efforts to improve care and equity in cancer services. His practice is grounded in kaupapa Māori principles, trauma-informed care, and whānau-centred approaches, with particular expertise in early intervention following diagnosis. He has clinical interests in head & neck cancer, haematology & stem cell transplant, and brain tumours. A former President of the Oncology Social Work Australia New Zealand (OSWANZ) network, Justin is committed to collaborative, culturally responsive models of care. He has recently supported the co-design and delivery of training for Cancer Navigators in Hauora Māori services, working in partnership with iwi providers to strengthen the cultural and clinical capability of the cancer care workforce.
