Kathy Minas
Kathy Minas was a carer for her late husband who was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder in 2012. Her cancer consumer experience includes the support of her husband through surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and participation in four clinical trials over a two-year period.
Her vision for Personalised Cancer Care is that future treatment options for low survival cancers are enabled through genomics and become part of the standard of care for all patients. Kathy has been part of the WEHI Consumer Program since 2016. Working with Dr Tracy Putoczki’s Lab in the Personalised Oncology Division and also with the Brain Cancer Centre. She participates in lab meetings, seminars, grant reviews and mentoring staff and members of the consumer team. She was appointed to the WEHI Consumer Advisory Panel (CAP) in 2018, contributing to the development of the CAP Strategic Plan aligned to WEHI’s Strategic Plan and development of a Consumer Volunteer Policy.
Professionally, Kathy led HR systems projects and organisational change programs impacting national workforces of 20,000-plus staff and involving multiple key stakeholders. Her capabilities include strong project and change management skills; highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills; financial management and budgeting; planning and organisation and people leadership.
Kathy was involved with the VCCC Alliance Strategic Program Plan as a member on the Steering Group for Drive the translation of cancer biology to 21st century personalised cancer care, prioritising new technologies and low survival cancers. She is also a member of the Cancer Consumer Advisory Committee at the VCCC Alliance and has recently been appointed as a Consumer Representative to the Cancer Research Advisory Committee at the VCCC Alliance.
