Veronica O'Shaughnessy

Veronica O'Shaughnessy is a senior oncology Social Worker, specialising in head and neck cancers at St Vincent's Hospital Sydney. Veronica has wide-ranging experience in oncology and haematology, palliative care, rehabilitation, crisis work, domestic and family violence matters, health promotion, mentoring and quality improvement. Veronica holds a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Social Work degrees from The University of Sydney, and went on to undertake further study, completing a Masters of Counselling Social Work from UNSW. She is also trained in delivering smoking cessation therapeutic interventions specific to the cancer population. Veronica has established and led a psychosocial education and support group for head and neck cancer patients and their carers which has been running for five years. The group ensures patients' and carers' information needs are met in an environment designed to promote social engagement, participation, recovery and mutual aid. Veronica is a strong advocate for the biopsychosocial care of cancer patients, their families and carers.
