Stephanie Ndungu

Stephanie Ndungú is a dedicated Medical Doctor committed to leveraging her medical and technical expertise to promote health equity and address gaps in cancer care particularly in underserved communities. She has worked with rural communities as a volunteer in a cancer survivors-led Support Group conducting cancer awareness campaigns with a focus on increasing the uptake of screening. As a Medical Officer, she provided direct care to patients with a wide variety of communicable and non communicable diseases at Nairobi Adventist Hospital. Her role is Program Manager at Faraja Cancer Support Trust, a Nairobi based cancer nonprofit that provides a range of free of charge complementary therapies and financial support to indigent cancer patients enabling them to access treatment. She provides overall leadership in all adult and paediatric oncology patients related programs. This entails among others coordinating and facilitating support groups for cancer patients and their caregivers, overseeing the childhood cancer program and conducting patient satisfaction surveys She is also involved in cancer education programs targeting professionals and the public. Stephanie is actively involved in grant writing working with partners in academia. Through her work at Faraja, she has witnessed first hand the devastating physical, psychological, social and financial impact of cancer on patients, families and communities. This has fueled her passion for research in this area. Stephanie has professional interests in measuring health outcomes from non pharmacological interventions including complementary therapies in cancer care. She is also focused on developing and evaluating culturally appropriate interventions to enhance psycho-oncological support. Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi and is actively expanding her skill set with training in Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence and their applications in improving health systems at institutional, national, regional and international levels.
